Faculty Rights & Responsibilities

This proposal is about the rights faculty have as they pertain to the courses that they teach. The bargaining committee proposes that:

  • The university provide faculty with a copy of their course description as it will appear in the online course catalog two weeks before it is posted.

  • Faculty have the right to add a supplemental “professor’s description” in the course catalog and correct errors in the university’s course description.

  • Faculty teaching asynchronous courses have the right to determine their own syllabi.

  • Faculty have the right to appropriate space and timely access to campus facilities and equipment for both faculty and students, including the Making Center.

  • Faculty receive fair consideration for requests for research assistants, teaching assistants, and course assistants.

  • Faculty continue to have the right to temporarily move courses online if the faculty member or student has been exposed to an infectious disease that poses a risk to the class (codification of existing practice).

  • Faculty regain the right Right to issue Z grades to students.

  • The university issue an annual notification to all departments and programs making clear that the union contract allows for the school to pay above the minimum rates and assign over minimum base loads.

  • Faculty be given first priority for open part-time departmental coordinator positions and must be notified of open positions by email.

  • The university establish a Public Program and University Lecture Review Committee in which part-time faculty will have the right to participate.

  • The university survey faculty teaching paired and co-taught courses to collect information on preferred teaching partners. Pairings must be maintained for three semesters.

  • Mannes faculty have the right to attend and be paid for juries, auditions, and all similar such activities.

  • Several other miscellaneous items.
